A modified fragment (amino acids 177-191) of human growth hormone with a tyrosine substitution. Studies have investigated its lipolytic properties without the growth-promoting or diabetogenic effects associated with full-length hGH.
AOD-9604 corresponds to the C-terminal fragment of human growth hormone (hGH 177-191) with an additional tyrosine residue at position 177. Research suggests it mimics the lipolytic action of hGH by stimulating beta-3 adrenergic receptors on adipocytes and enhancing fat oxidation, while lacking the IGF-1-stimulating and hyperglycemic effects of full-length growth hormone. In vitro and animal studies have shown it promotes lipolysis and inhibits lipogenesis in adipose tissue without affecting carbohydrate metabolism or promoting longitudinal bone growth.

Key finding: Research investigated AOD-9604-mediated lipolytic signaling in obese mice, observing modulation of adipose tissue metabolism without IGF-1 stimulation or hyperglycemia, with effects shown to be mediated via beta-3 adrenergic receptors.

Key finding: Phase II evaluation examined the safety and tolerability profile of AOD-9604, observing a tolerability profile comparable to placebo.
